The IAA

Established in 1990, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) is the national authority responsible for Israel’s archaeological activities, antiquity sites, and national treasures. The IAA regulates excavation and conservation and promotes research and publication.

The IAA strives to increase public awareness and interest in the country's archaeological heritage through educational activities and by working with a select group of on-ground volunteers, who assist the IAA by reporting on archaeological activities in their regions.

The IAA operates in accordance with the Law of Antiquities (1978) and the Antiquities Authority Law (1989).
